About Maria Beaney –

Founder of Agile Waze

Maria founded Agile Waze with a deep passion for empowering Scrum teams. With over 15 years of leadership and project management experience, she has been practising Agile and Scrum since 2017.

Her diverse career spans the British Army and the Ministry of Defence (MOD), where she worked across various government departments. Notable experiences include collaborating with the Royal Household on personnel policy and leading teams in British Army Soldier Basic Training

Maria’s leadership journey began at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 2008, where she embraced the “Serve to Lead” ethos, a principle that continues to shape her approach as a servant leader. Over nearly two decades of military service, Maria held several regimental and staff appointments, with her most notable role being Company Commander, responsible for 35 permanent staff and up to 200 recruits. This was the point where her passion for coaching truly blossomed.

Maria’s Scrum journey started in Army Digital Services, where she was selected as Product Owner to lead the development of a Personnel Management and Tracking tool as part of the Field Army Information Exploitation Programme. Under her leadership, the Scrum team quickly transformed into a high-performing unit, delivering impactful results. The programme was recognized as the Best Defence Project of the Year at the Project Excellence Awards 2020.

Her success in Scrum led her to transition into Agile Coaching and Scrum Master roles, where her passion for Agile grew even further. Maria’s extensive experience within the MOD and Army brings a wealth of knowledge to Agile Waze, from facilitating Scrum ceremonies to providing in-depth coaching and consulting on all things Agile.
